If y’all have been around for a while you’d remember a post I did a while back about smoothies. And I informed you on my accident that burned half my face. But good news! I’m all healed and good as new. Fire ain’t got nothing on me. Or my lashes cause this is the story of How I Grew My Eyelashes Out.
One lasting effect from that accident was a total singeing of my eyelashes. And if you ever want to feel like less of a girl try having no eyelashes or eyebrows. It’s truly humbling.
Needless to say I was battling some confidence issues and isolated myself for a couple days. Not wanting to have another child at Trader Joe’s point at me and say “mommy look at her face”.
But I’m not here to tell you my sob story. What I am here to talk about is how I got my confidence BACK BABY.
When my feminine facial hair was burnt to the nub I began researching ways to get them back. I looked up natural remedy after natural remedy. And sooooo many serum reviews. But being my impatient self, I didn’t want to wait a month for nature to do it’s work so I began looking into artificial means of lengthening my lashes.
Then I realized its expensive to be pretty so I tanked that idea. Plus false lashes aren’t really on brand for The Cutting Edge Veg. So I decided to take matters into my on hands.
I knew I had multiple routes to go when growing them out. I could fork over a lot of dough or a little of dough without knowing the effectiveness of either option. Or I could make my own serum with some simple ingredients. So I decided to do a bit of both and I’m sharing the results.
How I Grew My Eyelashes Out
At the beginning of March, my lashes were at the nub. And I knew there were Hollywood socialites with fluttering lashes they get overnight. So, I knew there had to be a way around this.
I decided I was gonna use two methods to kickstart my lash growth.
method 1: Natural Castor Oil ($11)
I read a lot about this miracle oil online and decided to give it a shot.
What I got was a total surprise. In about a month this stuff grew my lashes from nothing to nearly a cm in length.
I ordered this stuff off Amazon and it comes with little eyelash brushes to make application easy. I also added some essential oils to really help with the hair growth. Lavender and Cedarwood are what I added from Young living’s line of premium essential oils.
Here’s my step by step:
- Add about 4 drops of each essential oil into the castor oil bottle. Give it a swirl around.
- Dip the lash brush into the oil and let it drip off a few seconds because this would be way to much oil for your little lashies.
- Brush from root to tip on your lashes with your eyes closed because getting oil into your eye is not fun at all. Make sure you do get on the root though because this is the target for ultimate hair growth.
- Wipe away any excess oil globs and you’re good to go.
I like to do this before bed so I can multitask: Grow lashes and get beauty sleep. Truly efficient.
Here is the effect this serum had on my lashes. I was so very pleased I didn’t even care if this is a bad picture.
With any essential oil use, I strongly advise to test them on your skin before applying them. Your skin may be sensitive for such strong oils.
method 2: Rodan & Fields Eyelash Growth Serum ($180)
I was gifted this high-end serum shorty after my accident. After doing some Googling I found out that it had a hefty price tag. At least for a borderline broke college student.
The website for the serum said that this was suitable for vegans. So I figured I’d try it out.
Hey it’s free so why the heck not.
The directions say to paint the serum on the lash line before bed. I did this for about a month and had great results. This has continued to boost my lashes and I have received so many compliments.
So Which Method is Better
My verdict is…
Both are efficient. If you are looking for a cheaper homemade route go with the homemade option. It’s natural and kind of fun to mix together. Like a witch’s potion.
The high-end also has its perks though. It has brought my lashes to were they are today and continue to grow them. I couldn’t be more pleased with the effects.
I hope either of these methods help. They have certainly boosted my confidence and kept my lashes full and flourishing.
